Link Year Week 6:
First of all I would like to point out how fast this year is going. It seems like just yesterday I had arrived in Branson Missouri to begin my gap year here and in the blink of an eye I'm sitting here writing my sixth installment of my weekly blog. This year is going to be gone before I know it and I find myself in a constant scramble to absorb as much information and as many memories as possible.
One piece of information that has really stuck with me this week is something that one of our speakers. He said "If you are tolerating it (addiction or sin) then you can never overcome it." At one point in our nation's history, we didn't tolerate mediocrity or confusion. We knew what was right and we stuck up for it. Doing the right thing was celebrated, strength and honor were upheld as noble traits. The same could not be said for today's society. In today's society rebellion and perversion of the good are seen as amicable traits. We tolerate all sorts of unhealthy lifestyles and even in some cases, celebrate them. Society has been flipped upside down and with it our sense of morality has been skewed.
If we as a nation hope to progress or even on a more extreme level, remain intact we need to begin to call out our issues rather then celebrate them. We need to stop accepting mediocrity and tolerating a perversion of good. We need to fortify ourselves and build again on the foundation of a solid sense of morality. The first step to recovery is acknowledging you have a problem. In this case, the key is to stop tolerating our issues and move forward.
