Look Up

Link Year 10:

I grew up in a small town called Darien Connecticut. We were a 45 minute ride on the MetroNorth to the dead center of Manhattan and as a result a visit to the big apple was not a rare occasion. It was always interesting for me to see the diversity that was encompassed in a single city block. The one thing that was always easy to discern was who were the locals and who were the tourists. The key thing that distinguished New Yorkers and tourists was the simple fact that New Yorkers kept their head down, walked fast and stopped for nothing. A tourist on the other hand would take time to take in their surroundings. The difference between the locals is that they took for granted the things that the tourist find so amazing.

Life is similar in a way. We are surrounded by a breathtaking world filled with people who's lives all intersect in stunningly profound ways. We all to often find ourselves walking with our heads down, failing to ascertain just how great life on earth really can be. We have allowed ourselves to become anesthetized by familiarity. If you're simply willing to look up you might be surprised with what you see. Theres a lot in this world to be glad about if you're willing to put forth the effort to look a little closer. So much of what we take for granted is something that others find completely other worldly. Interpret your surroundings as if you are seeing them for the first time. Let yourself see the value in the situation you're in and let yourself see the world with childlike wonder. Everything in creation has inherent value, see the potential in everything. Wake up and smell the roses. Look Up.
